NAGEKEO
NAGEKEO is the name of a small regency in East Nusa Tenggara which is located in the middle of Flores Island. Located between two regencies, Ngada in the west and Ende in the east. Located in a very strategic position bordered by two seas, from the north by the Flores Sea and to the south by the Savu Sea. Nagekeo Regency has 7 sub-districts, are Aesesa District, Mauponggo District, Boawae District, South Aesesa District, Keo Tengah District, Nangaroro District and Wolowae District. The capital of Nagekeo Regency is Mbay which is also the capital of Aesesa district, which can be accessed from Ende Airport by using a car or bus with a travel time 3-4 hours and 1 hour from So’a Airport. MOUNT EBULOBO; an active volcano which is the highest peak in Nagekeo with an ascent starting from Pajoreja Village-Ululoga Village-Mauponggo District or from Mulakoli Village-Boawae District with a climbing time of 4 hours to the top of the mountain. From the top of the mountain we can see the scenery of most of the Nagekeo district. The path to the top of Mount Ebulobo from Pajoreja will pass through plantations owned by local farmers which are overgrown with plants such as Cloves, Nutmeg, Cocoa, Candlenut, Coffee, Pepper. In Pajoreja village there is also a well where the oldest Muslim ablution is performed. There are also homestays for overnight visitors
BOAWAE VILLAGE; the village is a relic of the Boawae kingdom where there is a Heda (local museum) which is a storage place for ancient objects and there is also a Ja Heda, a horse statue which is a symbol of strength. In addition, in the center of the village there is Peo which is a symbol of the unity of the local indigenous people. The tourist attraction of Boawae village is traditional boxing or known as Etu. This traditional boxing is usually held in June every year based on the circulation of the moon.
GERODHERE WEAVING VILLAGE; The village located on the road from Boawae Village to Mbay is a village where most of the people have a livelihood, namely ikat weaving. In Gero village we can see firsthand the process of making traditional cloth and Nagekeo shawls, by the local community.
KAWA TRADITIONAL VILLAGE; a village located in Labolewa Village – Aesesa where the layout of the houses is still very original, as well as the surrounding natural life at the foot of Ame Gelu hill. We will get a truly rural atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the city. By passing through savanna fields and forests we can find animals such as cows, buffaloes and goats that are left to roam in the wild. Visitors can stay in a house with very simple equipment which is very different from hotel rooms or inns in general.
NUNUNGONGO TRADITIONAL VILLAGE; The village, located in Tenga Tiba Village, South Aesesa Sub-district, is a village with original house structures.
WEWOROWET HILL; a hill located in Nggolonio Village – Aesesa right on the sea shore. At the top of this hill, you can see the exotic natural scenery of Nggolonio village in the south and Flores sea in the north with mangrove forests.
JAPAN CAVE; this place is located around the town of Mbay. The cave was made during the Japanese colonial era as a hiding place and other activities when the Japanese were in Indonesia, especially in the Mbay-Aesesa region. Man-made cave carved for the needs of Japanese soldiers.
KINDE ISLAND is a small island located in Tendakinde Village, Wolowae Sub-district, located in the northern part of Flores Island. This place offers a beautiful panorama with white sand and exotic hills. The hilly expanse of Mount Kinde on the island. Local people give the special name of this island is the little flower of Flores, is complete with a variety of fauna and one of them is bats.
